The Professional Development Academy at Ohr HaLimud

The Professional Development Academy (PDA), a division of Ohr HaLimud, is the professional training arm of The Multi-Sensory Learning Center. We believe in looking at the whole child in their dynamic environment to improve learning and teaching. We are very serious about preparing our community teachers, tutors, and allied professionals to work successfully with our children.

Our offerings will include a variety of workshops, short courses, full training courses, and practicum or coaching for specific skills. We will work with principals to design training or informational programs specifically targeted to the needs of your school. In addition we will offer open parent workshops geared to supporting the learning needs of all students.

Orton-Gillingham Teacher Training Course

The Professional Development Academy (PDA) of the Multi-Sensory Learning Center, a Division of Ohr HaLimud, is proud to offer our Orton-Gillingham Teacher Training Course as part of our “Operation Read” project.

This course is for teachers and practitioners who have already taken the Level 1 training, or its equivalent through another organization. This course will raise the level of your professional Orton-Gillingham skills and enhance the educational lives of your students.  After successful completion of the Level 2 Training, you will be considered competent to practice Orton-Gillingham independently, without supervision. The Orton-Gillingham Approach to teaching reading, writing, spelling, and handwriting has been used successfully for over eighty years. Originally developed to teach individuals with dyslexia, the Orton-Gillingham Approach is appropriate for use with all populations, has been translated into several other languages, and is used for students for whom English is a second language. This clinical teaching approach is designed to teach the structure of the English language using direct instruction and multi-sensory teaching strategies.
